Firmness of Mind is an organization that aims to help people become their happiest selves and reach their fullest potential through mental conditioning. Firmness of Mind helps people achieve this in three ways:

  1. The Book:
    • Firmness of Mind is a research-based guide that teaches what a life of well-being looks like and also provides a step-by-step plan of how to incorporate these principles in daily life (100% of author’s profits are donated to charity). 
  2. Classes and Groups:
    • Firmness of Mind holds and facilitates group activities that promote mental and emotional well-being, including breathwork, meditation, gratitude, and community service. 
  3. Coaching and Training:
    • Firmness of Mind offers professional trainings and retreats, serving clients on the corporate, team, and individual level.

Part 1: Firmness of Mind

Part 1 discusses research on what truly makes us happy. It also teaches us how to take action and achieve "firmness of mind," a state of mental well-being that we aim to develop with this book.

Part 2: Exercises for the Mind
This section teaches us how to improve our our happiness baseline through exercises that help us rewire our biased brains and overcome challenges to our happiness.  

Part 3: Exercises for the Body
Part 3 teaches us how we can increase levels of mood-boosting chemicals by taking proper care of our bodies. This section shares research that emphasizes the importance of physical exercise, nutrition, and sleep. 

Part 4: Exercises in our Immediate Relationships
This part of the book covers the importance of our relationships on our happiness and also teaches us how to prioritize and deepen our immediate relationships.

Part 5: Exercises within our Communities
The final section discusses the impacts that our communities have on our happiness and teaches us how to overcome challenges in our communities through emphasizing common humanity and an outward mindset.

About the Author

Ian grew up in the Seattle area and first developed his passion for positive psychology as a college student, where he took six different courses in positive psychology. Ian also has been featured as a panelist and speaker on mental well-being and self-improvement related topics.

He currently works in management consulting and is a founding member of the Utah Positive Psychology Association. He is also a certified breathwork instructor. 

In his spare time, Ian loves spending time with his family and friends. He also likes to spend his time being outside, fishing, playing sports, and trying new foods.
